After a good night's sleep, we got up early to make the trip to Mount Baw Baw,
which was closer to Melbourne and had a less evil-looking road (from the
map, anyway!) than the drive up into the Snowy Mountains, where Christian
(El Navigator Muy Grande) had originally wanted us to find skiing. We got
some breakfast, packed up the car, and took off. The drive
back was a lot nicer than the drive up; I was more rested and relaxed behind
the wheel, and we enjoyed the rolling hills and farms as the road twisted
and turned its way back toward Bairnsdale. Christian eventually emerged from
the veil of sleepiness, and the ride down was pleasant.
The weather changed pretty quickly
on us; rain, then blue sky, then more rain (as the pictures show), but nothing
unpleasant - in fact, it was really cool to see the dark clouds come and
go over the hills. Even where the sky was overcast, the hills and trees
were amazingly green.
Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, I got a headache and started to get
really sick (thank you, Christian, for NOT taking pictures of that!),
but a stop in Bairnsdale at the pharmacy fixed that. We were
back on the Princes Highway (easier driving for me!), and headed back toward
Sale and then on our way to Baw Baw National Forest.
In retrospect, it's a good thing we got rid of the driver's headache, as
the set of pictures in the next part will show!
These (click here) are the pictures from the drive.
