Our first stop on Phillip Island was the Koala Conservation Center. We
got some much better views of koalas in the trees than I had the day before,
and it was a lot cooler than seeing them in little tin huts at Worm Wonderland.
A couple of them even seemed briefly awake!
Next off, before the penguin viewing, we stopped at a place called Seal Rocks,
where there is apparently a community of seals that lives somewhere on the
rocks nearby. Since you can't really see them without the assistance of
binoculars, we admired the rocks and surf instead. It was a gorgeous day, and
the water exploding the rocks was pretty impressive (check out Christian's
great pictures of it in the gallery :).
Sadly, we couldn't take pictures of the squeaky little penguins coming out
of the sea in groups and rushing off to their little burrows later that
night, but it was cool to watch. Christian acquired a huge plush penguin :)
On the way back, we had some nasty food at a takeaway place. This was probably
the only bad food we had in Australia, actually, but it was all there was
and we were pretty hungry. When we got back, we headed up to the roof of the
hostel for one last view of Melbourne at night, and then went back downstairs
to get ready to fly home.
These (click here) are the pictures from the rest of the afternoon.
